Various permits are needed for setting up, operating and demolishing the Egmond aan Zee offshore wind farm (OWEZ). Some of the permits are for the protection of the environment and engineering structures. Provisions in the permits ensure that sea is used appropriately and safely and that potential negative effects on the environment are prevented.
The most important permits for the wind farm and the undersea cables are the permit under the Public Works and Water Management Act and the environmental permit. An Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) is submitted along with the application for these permits. The EIS describes the expected impact of the OWEZ on the environment. Based on this statement the competent authority (the Ministers of Transport and Public Works and of Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment) issue the permits.
