Construction
NoordzeeWind subcontracted the construction of the Egmond aan Zee offshore wind farm (OWEZ) to Bouwcombinatie Egmond (BCE), a partnership between Ballast Nedam and the Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas.
BCE developed an innovative method for installing the wind turbines. The heavy lift vessel Svanen was used to sink the steel foundation piles of the turbines. The masts of the turbines were erected using a floating crane.
The harbour in IJmuiden, the IJmondhaven, which opens directly to the sea, was used as the logistical base. Here all the components were collated and transported to the offshore site. Assembly of the components and quality control took place here too.
